Full Job Description

Under the supervision of a licensed physician, evaluates and treats patients having medical and/or surgical problems. Performs routine history and physical examinations; performs and/or interprets diagnostic tests and/or procedures in conjunction with physicians. Delivers direct patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:-Receive hand off from the Surgical team at shift start.-Write H&P for all new floor admits.-Post-operative- checks on all post-operative cases.-Answer floor emergencies, including fever work-up, hypoxia, arrhythmia, chest pain, etc.-Participate in all red trauma activations.-Facilitate transfer of critical patients to radiology/ OR, as needed.-Cover Plastic surgery emergencies in ED, including suturing of complex lacerations, casting fractures of hand plastic surgery patients, etc. Write H&P on all Plastic surgery admits. Cover emergency call on admitted Plastic surgery patients, and post-op checks on Plastic surgery patients.-Update team list for A.M. rounds.-Hand off to oncoming team in A.M.-Other duties as assigned.

-Shift: night, full time

-Completion of NYS approved program for training of physician assistants to acquire knowledge of anatomy, physiology and clinical patient care, usually via Bachelor of Science program/degree in closely related field.-Certain education/training may be accepted by NYS in lieu of these requirements (nurse, etc.)-High level of analytical ability required effectively and expeditiously diagnosing and treating medical/surgical problems under the direction of physician.-High degree of responsibility required for daily contacts with patients and their families.-Manual dexterity required for adept manipulation of surgical instruments and handling of medical equipment; physical strength necessary for lifting and proper handling and positioning of patients.-Registration required with New York State as Physician Assistant.-Certification with National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (or equivalent organization) preferred; mandatory for Physician Assistant.-Certification may require with American Heart Association or like organization in some areas as providers of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).

Pay: $48.07 – $60.33 per hour
